College Hill Neighborhood Association Board Meeting  5-8-2003

Attending:  Rose Lorenz, David Glenn-Burns, Kate McElligatt, Jana Nelson, Tom Reisetter, Mary Brammer

Not attending:  Lynn Neilsen, Guy Sims, Sue Doody, Jeanette Winegarden

The minutes from the last Board Meeting and the April Membership Meeting were reviewed and accepted.

There was no Treasurer’s Report.  We have had several new/renewed memberships.

Kate will contact the two women from Alpha Z Delta who attended the membership meeting to see if one or both of them are willing to serve on the Board as the student member(s).

Initiative reports were given.  Initiative C has been working on an “addendum” landlords could add on to their leases regarding acceptable behavior and care of the unit.  It was decided to move forward on this.
Kate will draft a cover letter and  “addendum”, and will notify Tom Romanin’s secretary that we are ready to use the mailing labels he offered to print for us.  Rose will request a meeting with the city regarding our request for a designated code enforcement officer and the need for the city to move forward on the “orange house”.   Kate will write a letter requesting that Nuisance Code violations be brought to the attention on the landlords as well as the tenants.  Kate will also pull together the group of people interested in zoning issues sometime in early June.

David suggested that the Board request a meeting with the Mayor once a quarter.  Mary suggested that the meeting include council members and city employees (on a rotating basis) as well.  The focus would be to promote
the positive aspects of the neighborhood, not just to discuss the problems.

David will schedule a discussion on the Initiative structure for the next Board Meeting.  We will need to decide where we want to go during the next year; where we want to focus our efforts.

There was a discussion of the need to go through Planning and Zoning to alter homes in the Overlay.  This is not widely known and it needs to be communicated to city officials, builders, and homeowners.

The question of joining the Chamber of Commerce for a year was voted upon.  The consensus was to join.  Mary agreed to be the contact person.  We will try to be visible at any events for members.

David brought up the need for a “center” for our group.  He is also looking for a place to store donated furniture which  the Wesley Center collects and loans out to international students.  He will put an appeal in the newsletter for space.

Mary will contact Jim Miller about getting postcards made for the CHNA using Frje’s painting of the homes on Seerley Park.  We would like to have these available for the College Hill Arts Festival in July.

The next Board Meeting will be Thursday, June 5 at 5:30 at the Catholic Student Center.  The next newsletter will be out around August 1.  A tentative date of  Monday, August 18 was set for the General Membership Picnic.  There will be a leafleting of every home in the Overlay prior to the picnic.  Information on disposing of waste and the neighbor’s guide will be included.

Respectfully submitted,

Kate McElligatt
Board Secretary
